We moved back to LA. Almost one year to the day when we moved away.
Back in Venice beach... So many ghosts... The billboards around here take on a twisted life of their own. Knott's Scary Farm adverts with agonized demons screaming float above our heads, Ivo agape. Buses roar by with slogans such as DIRTY SEXY MONEY. Terrifying images from Saw 5 are at bus stops, and no one even cares. And then you go down to the boardwalk for the three-dimensional ghosts.
Being back in LA makes you more sensitive to the imagery. A woman driving her beat up 1980's Toyota around Venice with an industrial particle mask on. A man pumping gas in only pajamas with ice-cream cones on them, with a giant tattoo in Gothic lettering across his back that says CAREER. These people could be dirt poor and on welfare, or they could be successful line producers or screenwriters. It's impossible to tell.
It's good to be home, I guess.
